CONCEPT

This program is not designed to teach Biblical Hebrew grammar. Rather, it is to be used as an auxilairy tool whose use will enable you to build your skills enough to answer "good" or "yes" to the questions above.

Develop these skills

  1. Mastery of the alphabet: Recognize and Write the Hebrew Letters. (More advanced readers should begin with the flashcard programs and biblical readings.)

  2. expand your vocabulary: Use the flashcard programs to learn the most frequently occurring words in the Bible. All nouns, adjectives and verbs that appear more than 25 times in the Bible are included.  Plurals, verbal roots and unpointed forms are also provided.

A.  Study Mode.

  • Each Hebrew word is read aloud, showing the part of speech and gender on the screen..

  • Choose to learn to spell Hebrew vocabulary words using the biblical or modern  spelling (or study both). 

B.  Matching -

  • Drag English to Hebrew. The word is pronounced with a correct answer.

    •

C.  Type translate into Hebrew or Translate into English

  • Words not yet mastered reappear in the drill.

  • Audio for all words to build oral comprehension skills.

D.  Create your own custom flashcard decks.

  • Choose the specific words you want to work on from the internal dictionary to build a new flashcard deck.

  • Or, use the accompanying vocabulary lists drawn from Lambdin, Seow, Kelley and other textbooks.

  1. Gain reading proficiency and listening comprehension skills:  These modules are designed to help you develop smooth, fluent reading of biblical and classical Hebrew.

  • Listen as text is read, choosing either a slow or moderate speed.

  • Click on each verse to hear it read and then practice by imitating the reader.

  • The recording program enables you to record yourself and then  listen to your recording,  gaining practice in reading aloud.

  • Graphics from biblical archeological sites bring you closer to the biblical era.

4.  Practice reading biblical texts from the Book of Proverbs.

  • This module encompasses forty-six frequently quoted phrases from the Bible.

  • Phrases such as "There is nothing new under the sun", or "O how the mighty have fallen!" are presented in Hebrew and English.

  • Click on the Hebrew to hear the proverb read, choosing the Hebrew with the "accent" (cantillation) marks or without.

  • Audio  has an audio speed control and repeat button.

  • An audio recording program enables you to record yourself as you read biblical passages aloud.

 

Biblical readings are chosen from:

  • the Scroll of Ruth,

  • the Book of Kings 

  • the entire Book of Jonah

  • the Book of Deuteronomy.

  • Selected/popular proverbial biblical phrases

  1. A typing program is included for practice in using the Hebrew Keyboard. Choose the Israeli,  BibleWorksTM or the LogosTM  keyboard.

  2. The on-screen voice recorder program can email your audio recordings directly to your instructor.
