Whether you were born Jewish,  are a 'Jew by choice' or simply wish to know more about the Jewish Culture, these materials are your passport to becoming a knowledgeable insider.

 
CONCEPT

Using these materials you will acquire the basic tools needed to participate and feel at home in the many aspects of Jewish life.  Home activities, religious activities and communal activities all play an important part of feeling comfortable and knowledgeable in a Jewish environment.

FEATURES

  1. Learn to read and write the Hebrew alphabet.  "An animated arrow shows you the way" as you learn to  write the letters in the Hebrew alphabet in script and/or block form. The "drawing pad' on the left enable you to practice writing the letters.

 

  1. Hebrew is an integral part of Jewish life: religious life, community activities, and even a part of daily life.

  • Use the flashcard programs to learn essential words and phrases used in the synagogue, the home, on Shabbat and holidays, at life cycle and Jewish community events. 

  • Each "card" has a concise explanation of the term or phrase on it. Short explanations about related Jewish concepts and values help you use the words and phrases correctly.

  • Choose from the nine  categories the words you want to focus on.

  1. Prayers and blessings

  • Become proficient in reading and reciting/singing a wide variety of prayers .

  1. Jewish ritual objects

  • Become  familiar with the appearance, Hebrew names and meaning of selected Jewish ritual objects through  pictures, audio and short explanations.

  1. Familiar biblical proverbs in Hebrew, with translations

  • Become familiar with favorite proverbs from the Hebrew Bible. Each Hebrew proverb  is read aloud and  an English translation is provided. Shown both with and without the "trope" symbols.

  1. The Scroll of Ruth - Read on the holiday of Shavuot

  • As you advance in your reading skills,  practice reading from the Scroll of Ruth. Chapter One is chanted to illustrate the tropes (chanting melody) used when reading from  the Scroll of Ruth on the holiday of Shavuot.
